The Singer/Songwriter Album of the Year?

With the increasing popularity of rock 'n' roll in the world of Christian music, vocal groups, pop divas and many of the most gifted singer/songwriters have tended to fall by the wayside. Now, it's true that I'm a die-hard fan of great rock bands, and I think this "season" has been a long-time coming, but it's also true that I'm every bit as taken by a standout solo artist's combination of brilliant lyrics and an engaging voice.

With that in mind, there's a new CD that I strongly recommend you go out and buy right now, and then add to your Christmas list as the "go to" CD for your most discerning, music-loving friends. During my two-plus years with CCM's editorial team, I've never seen an album connect "out of the blue" with our staff like this one has. And it leads me to ask you one question:

Do you think you know the music of Sara Groves?

Think again. Do yourself a favor--drive over to your local Christian bookstore and give Sara's new CD, Add To The Beauty, a "test listen." That's all it'll take. Do I think it's the best singer/songwriter album of 2005? Yes. And that's not the half of it. Frankly, it's #1 on my list of this year's 10 best Christian albums of any style. Furthermore, I don't recall an album that was more engaging in 2004 or 2003 either.

Lest you think I'm overhyping this, I'll just shut up now, and hope that you're gonna do yourself that favor.
